Care Certificate Induction Training

If you have the right skills and character, our Care Home has care jobs available for you.

The care home staff we employ must successfully complete our Care Certificate training programme, to retain their position.

Continuous Care Training

Our Care Support Staff can access further short training courses, either on-line or by attending one of our Sunshine Care Training Centres.

The carers employed by our care home participate in our continuous staff training programme, ensuring that the quality of care at The Retreat is always of the highest standard.

This ongoing training includes specialist courses in Dementia Care, Palliative Care, Complex Care and Neurological Care; as well as short courses on Stroke Care, Reablement, etc.  After six months you are expected to enrol on either NVQ 2 or NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care.

Job Title : Health Care Assistant

Job Description:

We are quite often looking for enthusiastic and committed Care Assistant to join the team at our care home in Plymstock, Plymouth. Our mission is to provide the best care service at all times. Is this your motivation?

What you’ll be doing

Under the guidance of a Team Leader, you will be responsible for the support, physical and emotional well being and social needs of our residents

Assisting and providing support for residents with personal care activities such as washing, personal hygiene, dressing and assisting with meals

Providing physical and mental stimulation by taking part in recreational and social activities with residents, both individually and as a group

Helping to maintain accurate records, using our advanced iPad and smartphone based care system, You will need to undertake ongoing training.

Promoting our residents’ independence, choice, dignity and respect by delivering the very best standards of care.  You will need to be a Key Worker looking after the specific social needs of at least one resident.

What you’ll need

Ideally, some experience in a care environment and an NVQ in Care, although this is not as essential as your genuine desire to develop a career in this field

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a dedicated team

A respectful, courteous and compassionate nature and a belief in giving your personal best at all times and striving for continuous improvement
