Care Home Philosophy
The Retreat Care Home is totally committed to creating a loving, happy, active and caring environment for the elderly and frail.
Our residential care home encourages the independence of our residents. Each resident has their own Key Worker, who will is responsible for providing their bespoke support and companionship.
Expressing individuality is so important for emotional, intellectual and spiritual well-being. Everybody is treated with respect and dignity. We respect the individual right to get up and go to bed when they want, when to eat and drink, and what to do during the day. Nobody is forced to partake in activities or to eat at set times.
A safe and secure environment is provided; with the most up-to-date call bell system, fall and movement sensors and door alarms. There is good security with external cameras and many other safety devices and features. All personal care is geared to the wishes of the residents; and is recorded on our Care Control iPads; with personal details securely saved on external servers.
We have excellent medication procedures with lockable medication cabinets in each room. We also have excellent continence control procedures; and this along with our pressure relieving mattresses and carer vigilance, helps prevent pressure sores.
In our care home, staff communication and listening skills are essential. We have regular resident’s meetings and two Well-Being Champions; resident and staff representatives.

Testimonials about the best Care Home in Plymouth - The Retreat
Dear Susan and Paul,
Just a note to let you know how much Sally and I appreciated all that you did for my father during the whole time that he stayed with you.
Harold had the best possible last year of his life with you at The Retreat, the best Care Home in Plymouth. You were kind and thoughtful to an old man who had not learned to expect too much from either of those attributes, and I know his occasional tears in your house were tears of gratitute at your loving care. I can't say how much I admire what the two of you do from day to day. You have such courage and you do so much good work.
Harold is looking back on you now with gratitude that I know is very profound.
Love to you both, Colin.
